Martial Arts Word of the Month for October 2012

Mushin — loosely translated as “without mind”, or “without conscious thought”.mushin

Through martial arts training, we strive to achieve a mental state of calm – a mind not occupied by thoughts or emotions and thus ready and open for anything.

Mushin is applicable not just in combat, but also in everyday life.

Do you find your mind occupied with a lot of “inner chatter” or “self talk”?

Are you formulating your responses instead of listening to what your conversation partner/colleague/spouse is saying?

Mushin allows you to act and react without hesitation and without disturbance from such thoughts.
